We Are Metallicus | Karen McHenry
1. How did you discover blockchain technology and what caught your interest?
Living in Europe gave me insight into how painful moving money across borders can be. Several years later I discovered blockchain while reading about one of my interests, cryptography. I had an a-ha moment and have been hooked ever since.
2. What’s your favorite way to unwind after a busy day?
Either running or walking my dogs. I have been a runner my entire life and I have 2 dogs that are obsessed with walks. Both of these activities get the endorphins flowing. In the summer I also like to play tennis after work.
3. Why did you join Metallicus and what do you love about working here?
I joined Metallicus because Marshall’s vision aligned with my own belief that only regulated use of digital assets will survive in the long run. I had worked on the more speculative side of crypto for a bit and found that it did not align with my interests. I want to see digital assets and blockchain integrated into the traditional financial system. I love the feeling that we are all working towards the same goals as a team. Days can be hectic sometimes because we run lean but it’s always an enjoyable hectic. Everyone is on the same page and chips in to get the job done.
4. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Oooh. That’s tough. I have a long bucket list but I have always wanted to stay in one of those bungalows on the water in Bora Bora.
5. Can you describe a typical day in your role at Metallicus?
No. There is no such thing as a typical day and I love that.
6. What is a book, movie, or TV show that has made a significant impact on your life?
My response to this could change every week. I am an avid reader, so I find it difficult to choose just one. I really love the book “Code Girls” by Liza Mundy. It’s the little-known story of women that were code breakers during WWII, but their work was secret so they were never able to tell their stories. I enjoy reading untold stories of women that were “sheroes” — it gives me a lot of inspiration.
7. Can you share an exciting project you’re currently working on at Metallicus?
I’m very excited for users to see the fully re-designed Metal Pay.
